Panic attack

Have you experienced at least 4 of the following symptoms concomitantly❓

➡️ Palpitations or a pounding or racing heart

➡️ Sweating

➡️ Trembling or shaking

➡️ Sensations of shortness of breath or smothering

➡️ Feelings of choking

➡️ Chest pain or discomfort

➡️ Nausea or abdominal distress

➡️ Feeling dizzy, unsteady, light-headed, or faint

➡️ Chills or heat sensations

➡️ Numbness or tingling sensations

➡️ Derealization (feelings of unreality) or depersonalization (feeling detached from oneself)

➡️ Fear of losing control or “going crazy”

➡️ Fear of dying

✅ If so, you may have had a panic attack.

If there is no medical reasons for these symptoms, it is important to investigate with a psychologist the different ways to prevent or calm down an attack and importantly what may be at the roots of these fear responses.

Often the person thinks that it comes from out of nowhere or for no reason, but often we find in psychotherapy that the person may have endured stress or trauma even if a long time ago. And by treating the stressful or traumatic event(s), say with EMDR or CBT, the panic attacks reduce or disappear.

With all my wellness wishes.
